Ralph Edward Thornburg

Ralph Edward Thornburg (76), of Claxton, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at home under the care of Bethany Hospice and his wife Helen Carol of 56 years. He was born in Moultrie, GA, on September 9, 1947, to the late Edward L. Thornburg and Betty Jean Buchanan. 

Ralph enlisted into the US Marine Corps in 1968 and served until honorably discharged in 1972. 

He was a loving and caring husband, dad, brother and grandpa. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Ralph was always ready for an adventure. He lived a full and exciting life racing cars and motorcycles, building and flying large scale model airplanes, building computers and playing games online with many friends. He and his wife explored the deserts of Nevada in a Jeep and camping out until buying a motor home and enjoying extended trips out with friends. After retiring he discovered boating on the ocean and was hooked. He loved crossing the Gulf many times cruising with his wife and boating buddies. 

Ralph is survived by his wife, son Clinton (Anna) Thornburg of Claxton, GA, son Richard E. Phelps of California, sister Diane Manning of California, and grandchildren Dakota, Audrey and William. 

He was dearly loved by his family and friends and will be missed by all.
